Heart’s Desire: Sanctuary Space
I talk about Heart’s Desire a lot. It’s one of my pillars. It is now my ministry due to how it has transformed my life and added JOY to it. Heart’s Desire is my GPS system now for how I guide my life. Gone are the days that I prioritize the needs of others and every responsibility I have… BEFORE I get to what makes my heart flutter or ACT on what I cannot stop thinking about.
To be clear, I am speaking outside of work— I know I have been good at turning my ideas into produced stories. It is not enough to fantasize about what I want, putting it off until ONE DAY, when I’m less tired or have more time and money, to finally get to it. If these times have told us nothing, it has encouraged us to curate the life of our heart’s desire.
Easy to talk about, harder to do. So, HOW did I do this? First, I took my desire to meditation. I heard my God’s voice tell my body and mind to “create the garden boxes so we can grow.” My intuition immediately knew that “garden boxes” was a metaphor. But for what? I got still and paid attention to what caught my attention. I started to notice how many Zillow notifications I had. Then I became aware of why I scrolled IG so much. Oh, I realized, I really just love to bookmark inspiration for my Dream Office one day. I found that I was liking all of Laura Harrier’s recent posts of her new home. Then it was clear that my spirit’s “garden box” was something I have come to call SANCTUARY SPACE. I took that feeling back to meditation… and then I saw it. I journaled about it… I would even hike, imagining me driving up to it, parking my car in front, walking through my reception, putting my bag down in my beautiful office, making tea in our lovely kitchen, and gathering in an open living room for staff meetings.
Then I took three more manifesting actions: I called my Business Manager and told him about my Heart’s Desire. We then found a commercial realtor specializing in creative office spaces. And then I finally slid in Tiffany Howell’s DMs. She is the principal designer of Night Palm (which means she is responsible for Laura Harrier’s interior design that first caught my attention).
I told her that in order to do my best work yet and make story27 productions a legacy company, I wanted to collaborate with the best to give myself the best. Our mission: Create a Sanctuary Space that had hints of my love of the sexy grown women of the 70s.
Sanctuary is rooted in my belief that the ability to access our inner voice can’t just be in meditative ashrams or churches or mosques, or synagogues. We have to access that peace and connection to God in our everyday life— it’s time to bring sanctuary home and to the workplace.
And I did it. We did it. One day it was a concept and a theory and a dream and the next it was the actual headquarters for @story27productions and @WritersColony__itlom and @inthelandofmara.
I am bursting with pride.
I am full of gratitude.
The beauty and majesty of this place was intentional. It was also an exercise in accepting myself, celebrating who I am, and allowing myself to live out my Heart’s Desire in real-time and in real life. At a time when everyone thought it was time to abandon the office place due to the pandemic, I knew we would eventually figure out how to move forward. We humans always do… but when we returned to the workplace why not let it be a time to reinvent the office to be a place that reflects beauty, encourages creativity, and honors our humanity.
Why not make the workplace feel like the home we became used to during our quarantine. We are in a transformative time — a time that needs new ideas to reimagine a world that includes everyone and most certainly treats employees like the human beings we are.
My Sanctuary Space designed by my new Gemini Twin Bestie even drew the attention of @ArchDigest and was exclusively featured in @archdigestpro in October 2021 and picked up later by @AD_Spain in the same year. Hi Mara, I am Alena who helped to get Dizzy 🐕 back home last night. I sent this message to you in IG but suspecting it may stay unread and unreceived. So I am sending it here hoping you will read it. When you opened your door I did not know who you are but I remembered your name and my curiosity made me do a quick Google search which gave me a “wow” reaction and huge, huge sense of gratitude!!! What an honor and pleasure to chat and meet you in person!!! I realized you may not be an ordinary person, more like a princess in a castle when you opened your door – I was not wrong! Your unique beautiful energy and kindness was felt the first second when I saw you on your doorstep. I passed by your home so many times and admired it a lot, now I am happy to know the owner.
Thank you for making my day yesterday and today! I hope to see you again.
Say HI to dizzy. He is the cutest ☺️🥰. All dogs love me, he proved it when he ran towards me with love but was initially defensive to David 😁.
Enjoy your weekend and hope to see you soon again,
