Love Reflected
The word parent comes from the Latin word parentem meaning father or mother, ancestor. Of all my titles and credits, being a mother, being Yasin and Nasir’s mother is by far my proudest. This doesn’t mean I neglect the other titles of artist, creator, wife, daughter, boss. In fact, I think it’s beautifully human for our sons to see how the pendulum swings of the roles Salim and I take on other than their parents.
During this time on the road, Mothers and Fathers were celebrated around the nation with their respective holidays. Our youngest, Nasir, gifted us with one of the best gifts I could ever receive. He created a playlist that reminds him of us – Salim and I. To pour yourself into a child, a human being, and see how that is reflected in their perception of you is such a beautiful honor. Y’all, I could’ve cried the first time I heard it. I mean, on one hand, I’m so touched about how he decided to express his love for us, and on another, I’m like, “This kid is FOURTEEN! What you know about Funkadelic?!”
Enjoy this gift, From the house of AKIL courtesy of Nasir.

Really beautiful sentiment by the young fella. Isn’t it wonderful to see the emotional intelligence of our seeds? And that they are paying attention to who we are? Lovely.
This is such a wonderful tribute from my grandson to the two of you. I was smiling a bit because some of the songs are my generation, but they are the classics of a lifetime, and I was definitely playing when you were growing up – especially Bill Withers – love him forever and ever!
Wow, at 14 already expressing his heart and creativity with his parent’s as his muse. This is beautiful
Children: YHVH greatest Blessing/gift to us. Of all your accomplishments, which I have cheered and admired from afar, it is the commitment to your family, your sons, your mother, your sister, your grandmother – and Brother Salim, which impresses me most. As an Aquarian empath equally endowed with vision: I see you; I see the contributions to the world that both Yasin and Nasir will make. You’ve done exceptionally well. #keepgoing
