Muse Dinner

I think the dinner party is the new now. It’s perfect for real connection and memorable moments. A chance to make some core memories, or certainly get to know someone more while offering an environment for others to meet and forge stronger bonds.

For my colleagues in this business, who I never get to see or spend time with because we are all so busy with our respective lives and careers, I was moved to throw a dinner party in my Writers’ Colony, which is a place to write, a place to find your voice and a place to belong… as in build and maintain a community.

So to celebrate the official opening of The Writers’ Colony, I hosted my first MUSE Dinner and invited women who I admire and inspire me from my industry. In essence, making the MUSE Dinner the new golf course.

This is the note I sent to: Debbie Allen, Lena Waithe, Elaine Welteroth, Salli Richardson, Bozama St. John, Angela Rye, Angela Davis, Louise Hazel and Alice Smith.

You are a muse for me.

I think you are lovely and inspiring and simply… I’d like to spend more time with you in this lifetime as we journey near each other on our respective paths. The quick run-ins are no longer enough for me and since my 51st birthday I have vowed to be intentional about connection.

I also love dinner parties.

Hence the creation of my Muse Dinner Series, whereby I invite 9 cool humans together over some good food and great company and see what conjures.

Please accept my invitation to my first Muse Dinner.

And they all showed up.

One of the highlights that came from this Muse Dinner was that we realized a moment like this is rare due to our life schedules. BUT we can hold space in our minds, hearts and prayers for one another. So we went around the table and shared our current dreams and needs for the purpose of when we think of one another, we can intentionally send a wish for each other’s dreams to come true. I tell you it was a powerful and beautiful way to bond and stay connected through good vibes. Thank you ladies for allowing me to get to know you more.

Fun fact: Elaine was very emotional this night, sparking a beautiful vulnerability in all of us. We realized later, she was pregnant this night with her son and didn’t know it yet.
